Position: Church Musician at Franklin Park Baptist Church

This position offers generous compensation in exchange for Sunday morning music and limited special events to uplift the Christian congregation.
Franklin Park Baptist Church (FPBC) is a multi generational American Baptist (ABC-USA) congregation located 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh with 125 active members. The congregation is transitioning from a traditional (but not liturgical) musical style. We are seeking someone to bring life to treasured hymns and uplift spirits with contemporary Christian music. Music should inspire worship and engage our relationship with Christ.
The position of Musician, in consultation with the Pastor, will develop and lead our music ministry. They will work with all ages of people. They are a committed Christian who is deepening their own relationship with Jesus Christ and modeling this to others. This position is an opportunity sharing your faith and gifts with the congregation, leading others in joyful worship.
Primary Job Functions
- Select and perform music each week for Sunday morning services and infrequent special services
- Use the Piano and Organ and optionally your own instruments
- Introduce new music to the congregation
- Lead choruses or choral numbers with the congregation or choir (e.g. Easter and Christmas)
- Accompany occasional congregation performances
- Recruit, equip, motivate, and shepherd those who are interested in music within the congregation, including youth and children
- Communicate faithfully with the Pastor and Church Staff
- Weekly communication of Sunday songs (so staff can make programs and visual projection of song words to congregation)
- Purchase new music as needed
Skills
- Musically proficient in at least one keyboard instrument, and in vocals. Ability to play multiple instruments is a plus.
- Able to accompany a soloist or small vocal group
- Dependable, responsible, self motivated
- Well organized with strong communication skills
- Able to discover and develop peoples’ musical gifts
Experience
2 years performing in public. Church experience is a plus.
Education
A college degree in music is great, but not required.
Demands
This is a part time position responsible for one service provided every Sunday, typically between the hours of 9am and Noon, but may vary during the summer months. Expected hours also include personal/group practice and preparation time. When considering extra preparation for Christmas and Easter, 250 hours are needed annually. The applicant could make themselves available for weddings and funerals, if interested.
Compensation
This is a paid position with negotiable compensation.
